The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Singapore for the second time in promotional history last Saturday (June 17, 2017) with UFC Fight Night 111: Holm vs. Correia. It was a fun night of bits that saw six of 12 bouts ending inside the space, and with that action now in our rear perspective, let us look at which of the day’s competitors we might no longer see going to work within the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
Arlovski came up at a unanimous-decision loss to Marcin Tybura and has now suffered five straight defeats within the Octagon, with all five of them coming from the heavy hitters of the branch. It would not surprise me to see him get another opportunity, but I think that it is likely that we have seen the last of Arlovski. If they wanted to keep him around, I think that they could have given him a different opponent than Tybura, since the Pole was riding a red hot win streak with a set of knockout finishes.
Saffiedine has suffered three successive defeats and is 1-4 in his last five outings within the Octagon. The only victory during this stretch was a unanimous-decision over Jake Ellenberger. Due to that losing streak, I think there is a fair possibility that the promotion will elect to part ways with all the prior Strikeforce welterweight champion. I would say it’s 50/50 as to whether we see Saffiedine remain in the business.
Gomi has now last four in a row — throughout first-round finish — and it is probable that the 38-year-old veteran will likely be getting his walking papers out of the advertising. The simple fact that there is a card coming up in Japan makes me believe they can give him yet another crack, therefore at this point, we’ve got a 50/50 shot best of seeing”The Fireball Kid” back.
